“To promote free access to high-quality scientific information for the benefit of humanity.”

Who we are

The Bashan Foundation was founded with a clear mission to make the tools and opportunities for scientific advancement accessible to all. As a means to materialize this mission, the Foundation has continuously built trusted digital archives for scholars who need reliable access to scientific information, serving as an open scientific repository in microbiology and environmental sciences. It also seeks to establish scholarship programs to support graduate students from developing countries in participating in conferences, workshops, and internships related to their academic formation.

Founded in 2003 by the late Prof. Yoav Bashan (1951–2018), the Foundation celebrated 20 years of service to science in 2023. Over the years, it has supported numerous scientists, particularly from developing countries who might otherwise lack access to critical scientific resources. Based on the principles and foundational ideas of the Bashan Foundation, Prof. Yoav Bashan and his wife Luz Bashan, established the Bashan Institute of Science (BIS) in 2014 to further expand research, collaboration, and scientific capacity building in environmental biology and biotechnology.

How we do it

It is in the Bashan Foundation’s nature to acquire more data, continually expand our collective knowledge, and provide it—free of charge—to any scientist in need.

We maintain an active archive of scientific articles contributed by members, aiming to preserve their scientific work. This archive serves as a research-assisted platform that fosters the discovery and use of these information resources for the benefit of humanity.

Incorporated as a not-for-profit organization under the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, the Foundation is a home for a worldwide scientific community to share knowledge and foster collaborations. Currently, the Foundation has over 90 scientists as members from the USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, Argentina, Mexico, Israel, the Netherlands, Austria, Russia, Italy, France, Sweden, Brazil, New Zealand, Denmark, Chile, Spain, China, India, and Turkey. We are continuously working to expand our database with more data and collaborating scientists.

In 2023, the Foundation contributed to organizing the 12th PGPR Workshop in Toulouse, France, as part of its ongoing efforts to advance research and collaboration among scientists.
